How to Be a Lawyer Without Going to Law School
Throughout American history, an extremely small number of lawyers have achieved that professional status without going to law school. Among them are Abraham Lincoln, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Daniel Webster, John Marshall, Clarence Darrow, and our firm’s very own Adam Nicolai. Between 1996 and 2014, only 39 people passed the California bar exam without going to law school, and Adam was one of them.
It is also interesting to note that today only four states – California, Virginia, Vermont, and Washington – allow aspiring lawyers to take the bar exam without going to law school. Moreover, California’s bar exam continues to be the nation’s most difficult.
